Clay, gold and silver fields

Angeliki Papadopoulou , Nikolas Bliatkas

The Aegean area and especially Lemnos is the common axis of the exhibition “Clay, gold and silver fields” of ceramicist Angeliki Papadopoulou and artist Nikolas Bliatkas. The jewels “Makarounes”, are designed and created by ceramicist Angeliki Papadopoulou at the proposal of Artspace “Ochra Blue”. Lemnos was a great granary and from ancient times until today still produces extremely wonderful pasta . Angeliki Papadopoulou is inspired by traditional handmade pasta and creates ceramic “makarounes” which are worn rather than eaten … These unique jewelry pieces are tied with cotton yarn and can be improvised by the holder to change their shape with time.

The light and reflection, as well as the open landscapes of the island are the material and themes present in the last three years of the work of Nikolas Bliatkas. The “inner” light comes from the shiny gilded surfaces while the paint sits in thin transparent layers. Landscapes activating placing the viewer depending on the point of viewing. The Seas are wet fields, transparent, diffuse the silver light, without horizons, indicating the continuity and the infinite, while acquiring entity and rhythm through the motion of the brush.
